The remarkable progress British sitting volleyball has made in the build up to this summers Paralympics was showcased in a thrilling five set Grand Prix final between London Lynx and Surrey Gators/Malory Eagles in Kettering last weekend. London Lynx took the title by just two points in the fifth set.

Recent history between these two teams showed that the match was going to be close. Gators went in the final ahead by only 6 points after the Grand Prix season with a total of 98 points.

SIMON Loftus had two opportunities to take a National Cup title last weekend when his women's Leeds Carnegie team met Polonia IMKA London in Kettering, followed by his men's team taking on Sheffield.

Unfortunately, despite the huge progress his student teams have made, neither were able to claim a title against the strong opposition they faced. Polonia were able to take the title for a second year running. The 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 17-25, 25-23) match was watched by 404 spectators, a turn-out much higher than expected in the National Volleyball Centre, Kettering. Katie Pollom, from Polonia was awarded the MVP for the match.
